mares of thrace fares well in year end poll and charts
January 7, 2013
2012 turned out to be an absolutely fantastic year for Calgary noise-doom duo MARES OF THRACE, with a lot of great critical praise for their sophomore album The Pilgrimage, released late last spring on Sonic Unyon Metal.
The album, which spent more than nineteen weeks in the charts, was the #1 album of 2012 on !Earshot's LOUD chart for Canadian College Radio. It was also the second-longest charting album at metal radio in the USA, just behind HIGH ON FIRE, and ended the year at #41 on the CMJ Top 50 metal albums!
There was a lot of critical acclaim also given to the album. At home in Canada, it was named the #1 Canadian Metal album of 2012 by Hellbound.ca and was also voted their #5 metal album of 2012 too. The Pilgrimage was deemed the #2 best local album of 2012 by the Calgary Herald and Best Calgary album by BeatRoute's Calgary editor Sebastian Buzzalino, and we can't forget that Exclaim! named it their #7 metal/hardcore album of 2012.
The Pilgrimage also received some great international year end praise: Allmusic.com picked the album as one of their favourite metal albums of 2012, while Decibel Magazine's Waldo made it one of his Pecks Of The Year and MSN Metal named it their #18 album of 2012.
Congrats to both Therese and Stefani for making one of the best albums of 2012! This is only a taste of some of the great press The Pilgrimage received. We can't wait to see what its follow-up will sound like.
